Who is Matthew Reid?
Matthew Reid, known professionally as Reido, is a rising Jamaican musician, vocalist, and entrepreneur dedicated to using music as a force for positive transformation. Blending soulful melodies with a deep sense of purpose, Reido’s artistry reflects his lifelong mission: to create a peaceful and financially stable society, starting in Jamaica and resonating across the world.
Currently in the final year of his Associate of Arts Degree in Music Performance at the prestigious Alpha School of Music (ASOM), Matthew has built a reputation as a passionate performer, skilled producer, and inspiring leader. His academic excellence, reflected in his 3.55 GPA, is matched by his real-world experience in music production, band performance, and vocal recording technology. Matthew further expanded his expertise by successfully completing a specialized course in Music Technology from the renowned Berklee College of Music.
From a young age, Matthew combined his twin passions for music and entrepreneurship. A former standout student at Wolmer’s Boys’ School, he not only excelled academically but also developed early ventures in branded merchandise during his teenage years. Inspired by his father, Aldain Reid — a celebrated Jamaican entrepreneur and award-winner in the field of technology— Matthew’s vision extends beyond stages and studios to building businesses and communities anchored in empowerment.
As a musician, Reido brings infectious energy to every performance. He has headlined and collaborated on multiple live projects across Jamaica, notably leading the church-based gospel group Emmanuel, which tours the island promoting youth motivation and spiritual upliftment. His work with his Alpha School of Music bandmates — including Zuri Aiko Gordon, Jonathan “Saturn” Gordon, Alejandro “AleSoul” Keating, and Sanje Landell — has produced powerful recordings such as a reimagined take on the Freddie Hubbard classic “Red Clay” at Tuff Gong Studios, as well as original releases “Rukumbine” and “Eastern Standard Time” through SuperNova and JumpUp Records in Chicago, selling over 300 copies in just three days at the SuperNova Ska Festival.
Matthew’s journey is just beginning. In 2025, he will headline 'Journey', a landmark band showcase marking the culmination of his studies at Alpha. Looking ahead, he plans to pursue advanced studies overseas while expanding his portfolio as a global artist and entrepreneur — building a brand that celebrates Jamaican roots, musical innovation, and social impact.
Known for his authenticity, infectious spirit, and visionary mindset, Reido also embraces a strong love for fashion, lifestyle, and storytelling. His motto, “In Life, Everyone Has a Struggle — You Have to Choose Your Struggle,” guides his creative and personal journey.
Whether on stage, in the studio, or within the community, Matthew Reid is committed to inspiring others through music, entrepreneurship, and unshakeable positivity.
